While this haunted house is not in Louisville, it is in close proximity of the Ville and may be of some interest. Screampark, located in Lexington, KY, was a new haunted attraction to this region last year. Even though they’ve only been open one year, they have created quite a startle to Kentucky. Screampark claims to be the largest haunted event in Kentucky. Unfortunately, we have yet to make it to Screampark to confirm this claim. However, from what we have seen from the haunt it looks like quite a show! They have THREE haunted houses in one location. The beauty is that they are all indoor attractions! In most cases, multiple haunts in one location in this area mean that the event is an outdoor haunted trail of some nature, but not Screampark. They have a great website and a lot of really great haunt pictures. If you happen to be in Lexington, or just want to go to Wildcat country, this is one haunted attraction you don’t want to miss!

Lexington Screampark,

A couple of friends and I were in Lexington this weekend for Scarefest and decided to check out Screampark while in town, so I can give you a few details about this haunt. The admission was $18, but we had $2 off coupons, and I found that quite reasonable really. seeing that many individual haunts charge $20 for just one attraction and this includes 3 houses under one roof.
When you first pass the admission gate you’ll be warned about what’s to come by an animated cemetery bust like the singing busts at the Haunted Mansion at Disney World, afterwards you can choose any one of three attractions in any order you wish. We first chose Insanity. This one is basically like pretty much every other haunted house out there. It’s an asylum filled with mental paitents taunting you through a chain link maze through rooms with weird medical experiments and body parts. This is the “gross out” attraction, including a scene with a mental patient eating feces from the dirtiest toilet in Lexington. It’s nothing I haven’t seen a hundred times (as crazy as that must sound) and I’d give it 2 and 1/2 stars out of 5.
Next, we chose the best attraction at Screampark called Castle of Fear which is a really huge Medievel castle. You enter into a room of fountains with water cascading from lion’s heads into the heart of the castle filled with giant animatronic werewolves, vampires and spiders. There were many really impressive props in this haunt and the sets were large and filled with atmosphere. Walls will close in and ceilings will drop down. There are crypts and graveyards, including a HUGE scene that you’ll pass through from a couple of different areas filled with animatronic zombies rising from graves, skeletal horsemen, waterfalls, streams and fog banks. It’s kind of like the massive graveyard scene in the Haunted Mansion at Disney World. All the way through you’ll be taunted by undead knights, kings, beggars and demons. By far the best haunt at Screampark, I’d give this one 4 and 1/2 stars out of five.
The last haunt we chose was the Abyss, which is a prop free jaunt through total darkness that preys more on fears of the dark and the unseen. You’ll run afoul of ghouls dressed completely in black, and you’ll make you’re way through various obstacles hanging from the ceiling. Old chestnuts, like strings hanging from the ceiling, give you the feeling of spiderwebs. There is also an area of cold chills that works well and a finale that includes a fairly new “Claustrophobia” tunnel. I’d give this one 2 stars out of 5.
Overall, it’s a good value. You get three different haunts for different tastes. Insanity is for those who like gore and chainsaws, Castle of Fear is for those who like gothic horror and appreciate set design, animatronic monsters and detail, and the Abyss is for those who like scaring themselves and their friends psychologically in the dark. All for one reasonable price. I loved Castle of Fear, and the bonus two houses were fine, so for $16 I’d give the whole attraction 3 and 1/2 stars out of 5.
